Just 5 years ago I suffered from Blank-Wall-Itus. But not any more, because slowly I’ve become more comfortable with making my own wall art. Now I can barely bring myself to buy something off the rack for my walls…
That picture up there? I had an old canvas that we weren’t using anymore. So I grabbed a scrap of burlap and used the staple gun or glue gun (either gun will do) to attach it to the canvas so I had a burlap covered canvas. I also had an old odd shaped doily that I never knew what to do with so I used a few dots of hot glue to secure it to the canvas.
It took about 5 minutes and I had instant, easy, one of a kind, textural art. Poof, I’m an artist.
Finding things for the walls is the easiest part of creating a beautiful, meaningful home. I’m always surprised at what I can come up with when I’m determined to use what I have without spending much money.
Here are some other examples, try not to laugh, they aren’t for everyone…
plastic spoon laurel wreath yep, made from plastic spoons
and that green and blue canvas? I made that too, and I have no idea how to paint, I’d just rather paint than pay actual money for something
Just last week I found a big canvas for $8 at a yard sale, it wasn’t really my style but you can’t ruin what you don’t like in the first place, right? So I painted it.
And I have an entire pin board made up of easy wall art ideas.
