  1. it has been most illuminating reading what others have had enamoured into their hearts from the message of our inspirational Saviour.
    in recalling my entrance into the eternal life from the pathway to destruction (even though i did not realise it at the time) this one verse has been with me in many many ways. John 14 verse 1. i first came to have it printed on my business cards, the verse was chosen without a thought, it was spontaneous as has the time since with this simple yet powerful way of of life.
    i say simple, for it is apart from the trials i have almost each day, with fending off the one that seeks to complicate as many things as he is able to.
    it is so invigorating having the Holy Spirit lead me through all the times of difficulty that the world presents to me.
    i hold onto only one thing with glee it is Him in me and the world it flees.
    may the Lord richly bless everyone of you that seeks and knocks upon the door of eterntiy.

    This verse came to me during a Beth Moore bible study, and stuck. When I found it on a small plaque while traveling 2 Summers ago, I snatched it up and it sits on my kitchen windowsill, where it now feeds my family daily.

My favorite verse is I Cor 2: 2 I am determinded to nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified, which I do not think I have ever seen on a plaque or i would have bought it….but i do have a homemade plaque made especially for me which states, Life Is In Christ. Oh goodness then there is one in Isaiah 30:18 that has been my favorite for this past year…God longs to be gracious to us…..I love the fact He longs for us for i long for many things, like family near me, a Wal-mart near me, a huge bag of potato Lays chips…(I am a missionary in Papua New Guinea). Longing for the comfort things is just a part of life four us but I need someone to long for me and knowing the Creator of the Universe also sits on high waiting to have compassion on me, more of Isaiah 30 warms my heart just thinking about it.
    And Bonnie, I am sure you know this by now, being a missionary has nothing to do with location….you are shinning like one on your post for missionaries not only give out the gospel but spread encouragement among the believers and you are spreading your joy in words…thank you.

    • sorry I met my favorite verse I Cor 2:2 about two weeks after I got saved…I was alway a determined person and was so thrilled to understand i could remain that way just had to direct my determination toward knowing Him.

  4. I love Micah 6:8. Three simple things the Lord requires of us. Not so simple sometimes to carry out, but doable if we abide in Him. And Proverbs 25:11 reminds me to guard my words…which I haven’t been doing lately. Conviction yet again.

  5. Thank you Bonnie! I love how God showed you a verse early in life and he continues to use it even now later. The same happened to me. Psalm 139 has always spoken to my heart and let me know that even when I tried to hide and run away that I was not alone. I first discovered this in college as just a passage I loved because it let me know I was not alone. I did not realize in my late 30’s, the last several years, when I truly let people start knowing me and I started to stop hiding, my pain and hurt from others and God, that it would become even more meaningful to me. My daily prayer is that last two verses.
    Psalm 139:1-24
    1 Lord, you have seen what is in my heart.
    You know all about me.
    2 You know when I sit down and when I get up.
    You know what I’m thinking even though you are far away.
    3 You know when I go out to work and when I come back home.
    You know exactly how I live.
    4 Lord, even before I speak a word,
    you know all about it.
    5 You are all around me. You are behind me and in front of me.
    You hold me in your power.
    6 I’m amazed at how well you know me.
    It’s more than I can understand.
    7 How can I get away from your Spirit?

    It w as a little piece of paper my mom put in my room when I was 9? ish? I still have it on a bulletin board in my office now and it has a whole new meaning. It’s quite worn down, but I treasure it. I’ve moved all over and always kept it. Now I say it to my 5 year old when she’s afraid.

  8. currently my fav life verse is “Then God looked over ALL her had created and saw that it was EXCELLENT in EVERY way!” Gen 1:31 (emphasis mine)

    I found this verse when we were studying “The Christian Creation Myth” in a class and I wanted to remember the “version” of the myth that God gave me. (If you couldn’t tell by my use of quotes, I was not a fan of my beliefs being called a myth, and I certainly didn’t appreciate the being told that it’s okay if it doesn’t line up with the Bible because it is just a different version….umm if it doesn’t line up with the Bible then it is not Christian.)

  10. Jeremiah 29:11 has been my verse probably since I first read it. I grew up with no self esteem, no sense of worth and not thinking I was special. This verse just resonated with me…God does have a plan for…to prosper me…to give me hope and a future…wow!!!!

  11. I love Psalm 91 and it brought me much comfort when our soldier boy was over seas.
    A friend introduced me to it and I clung to it. What joy and peace it brought to me and still does.

  12. My life’s verse is Job 23:10. This verse has been with me for most of my days since coming to know the Lord as a teenager. It has helped me weather the storms of my sister’s suicide, my brother’s colon cancer and now the days of unemployment. However, as the verse says…someday it will all make sense and HE gets the glory. I’m not “gold” yet but this is not heaven. God bless you and your ministry to “in”courage us out here in the field.

  15. Jeremiah 29:11 is my life verse and has been for the past 11 years. I first met this verse after my Dad passed away very suddenly. It has been hard but I know God is here with me and He has a plan for my life. Now, at this season of my life, the empty nest is sort of beginning and this is more than difficult for me … but God has the plan!!   16. So encouraging to see how God speaks to each of us. My verse is Psalm 46:10 Be Still and Know that I am God. I am always hurrying and busy and He spoke this to the depths of my heart one day. I seen a plaque with birds and this verse about 3 years ago and it hangs in my entryway. I see it when I come home and when I leave.

    At my Father in laws funeral, I was given a card with this verse on it. At the time, I didn’t pay much attention to it…I must have read it though, and it stuck……because at times when I felt so lost and separated from My God, those words kept coming back to me. Over the next few years, whenever I found myself in some “so called life crisis” (some more serious than others), these words come to me and have the power to lower my heart rate and bring me instant peace.

I actually don’t have a “life verse”, but back in my college days, a time known for thrusting sheltered lives into a mix of all types, Hebrews 12:14 became key as it tells us to pursue peace with people, but with the sobering reminder to not compromise holiness in the process. And for those days in the journey where conflict persists, I love Psalm 62 – “My soul finds rest in You alone” I love where it says that one thing He has said, but two things we have heard: that God is strong and God is loving.

  19. Twenty three years God unexpectedly took my father home…. It was his birthday he’d just turned 53…. the life verse that came to me was Roman’s 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good… to them that love the Lord….

    A song that would be sung at his funeral… but has kept me all these years… knowing that even death God can use to make something good… Through the years I’ve seen this verse on cards, in a the song, on the wall and even on accessories…. God speaks and I love the word of God… it truly has been my comfort all these years….

  21. I was very young when the Lord brought this verse into my life & soul. It has been with me ever since then. I was a 20 year old Mom for the 2nd time & struggling with where my life was going. It was with a group of Ladies from our church having a Bible Study when this verse came into my life….
    Oh God, thou art my God,
    I will seek thee earnestly;
    my soul thirsts for thee,
    my flesh yearns for thee,
    in a dry and thirsty land
    where there is no water.
    Psalm 63:1
    That verse has always been in my heart when I struggle, and I know that the Lord is the one who ALWAYS remains faithful, when the world doesn’t!!!

  22. I have many favorite verses as I’m sure most of you do. Perhaps the one that has sustained me the most in good and bad times is 2 Timothy 1:7:

    “For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

    Different parts of that verse have encouraged me at varying points in my journey so far.

    I first got hold of the verse when I joined a church and had a friend go up with me. She sent me a beautiful card with that verse on it. Since then I’ve used it every time I go through a trial of any kind.

    This has been my favorite verse for many years. I didn’t find out until just a couple of years ago that it was my mom’s favorite verse to. How ironic that of all the verses in the Bible, mom and I both picked out the same verse.

Mine is 2 Cor 12:9-10 “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

  27. Well, my favourite verse is Jeremiah 29:11. Not sure where I came across it, but it struck a chord with me because, having felt in the past that I had no future, to know that God has hope and a future for me is special. When I can’t see that future, I know it’s in God’s Word and God’s Word is true, so thanks to Him I keep believing. 🙂

Its hard for me to have a fave, because life throws so many curve balls our way… or brings us to such a place of praise … thats why I love His Love Letter to us… giving us the Word. But, like many, I have probably grabbed onto Jeremiah 29:11 more than any…. as well as used it in ministering to others.. It is a strong strong promise…

    God gave me this verse at a time when I needed to go His was and not my way.

  30. This is a favorite verse of mine. Don’t think a lot of people would consider it a “life verse”, but God used David to deliver a “life” lesson to me through this verse. 1 Samuel 17:37 “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion, and the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine.” God used this to show me that I need not fear when circumstances arise in my life. Because His track record for delivering me from times of trouble, speaks for itself, as it did for David.

  31. I was going through a very tough season after ending my marriage, moving back to where I was raised to take care of an ailing parent. Starting a new life that I did not want-I wanted my old life back. I knew that was not possible so I began attending our family church and met some great ladies in a Wednesday Night Ladies class that just showered me with love and understanding and most of all helping me grow and to know that Jesus loved me and He was carrying me through all of this. One of the ladies that became a dear friend at one point gave me a pillow with the same verse that I had been carrying with me. Philippians 4:13-“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

    This verse has ministered to my soul for many years and seasons, by reminding me of God’s beauty, provision, future plan, creation, and hope (heaven) in the very hardest, most challenging and dark times of my life! With the Word written on my heart and stored in my brain, and with the indwelling of the Spirit, I see, as is the core of this verse, how His children can be with Him anyplace and anytime~~ everyplace and all time! It is both reminder of Who He is and Whose I am 🙂

  33. this isn’t really a life verse, but a good reminder for me who tends to worry alot.
    I Peter 5:7 “cast all your cares on Him, for he cares for you.”

Although there have been many scriptures that have been encouraging to me over the years, the one that stands out the most would be 1 Ch. 28:20 which was a promise to me when diagnosed with kidney cancer July 1995. “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God will be with thee, he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service for the house of the Lord.” Whenever I am hurting, or discouraged, or am waiting for God to act, when others around me give their advise to what I should or shouldn’t be doing, I find peace when I look for the TRUTH in God’s Word.

    I met my life verse a long time ago. People are always telling me I can’t do things, because of my size and stature. A lot of the times I feel like David up against so many Goliaths. I always recite this verse, just about everyday, and I’m reminded I can do all things when God is involved. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

  36. My life verse is Phillippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
    Our son has been very ill for several years. His physical condition remains fragile at best. We have had many life threatening situations with him and have had to live through and do many things we never thought we would be able to do. The Phillippians verse it a statement of TRUTH. With Christ we can do all things, without Him we are weak and helpless .

  38. I don’t know if I’d call it a “life” verse, but it’s a verse that spoke to me during a rough time and that I keep coming back to all the time. Isaiah 62:4 where God changes their name from forsaken and desolate to married and Hephzibah (My delight is in her). The hephzibah part gets me every time…to know that God doesn’t just have that obligated type love for me, but that he actually delights in me….plus, couple that with Isaiah 51:3 where God makes the wilderness into Eden. =)

  39. My life verse is Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth— Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD.

    After 14 months of tragedy after tragedy, the Lord lifted me from the bottom of the deepest pit of depression that I had every known. He heard me while I cried and begged and watched me as I then gave up. Praise Him for not giving up on me. Of course, now – I have “a new song” to sing!

My favorite verse is Romans 8:35-39 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? ….neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future…nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” What deep comfort that brings me in the darker days of life…God’s love is CONSTANT and sure!! Our family is going through dark days at present with my mother/who is also our Pastor’s wife 🙂 battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma in her vertebrae….but the name of Jesus is higher than any cancer…amen!!     Whenever I feel lost or like my life is not where I want it to be I go to this verse and remember that God has a plan for my life and a way to work things together that I may not realize at the moment.

  46. I’d like to share my Mom, Judy’s life verse. She died of Pancreatic Cancer just this last March only 5 months after being diagnosed at the age of 63. I found this familiar verse taped everywhere…in her journal, Bible, planner…now, it has such powerful meaning…she truly LIVED IT OUT in her lifetime and throughout a season of suffering through a very painful disease. Her faith and trust in Him never wavered.

    Joshua 1:9- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord you God will be with you wherever you go.”

    I just ran my first 1/2 Marathon in her honor on Saturday and believe me, I was praying through this verse the whole way! Praising our Savior she is home with Him now! : )

  47. Galatians 1:10 — For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.

    I ran into this verse while I was running a girl’s group in my home. Being a people pleaser this verse hit home right away. It was one of those I read and said “ouch”, but I keep going back to so that I can be reminded that the end goal is to serve God, not please man.

I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.” I’m not sure when I made this my life verse, but it has helped me through many times of fear, doubt and discouragment. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” I met this verse in college. It still reminds me what to do when I have worries.

    “Most Blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in and relies on the Lord; whose hope and confidence the Lord is.”

    this has been my life verse since I was a teenager first coming to the Lord – – and although I have many favorite verses this one has always been special to me . . .during a family tragedy this past 18 months that verse has been a strong hold. I wear a bracelet with beads with the words believe, trust and hope on it . .I’ve almost worn out the hope bead!

    I loved reading the verses from the other ladies – -a testimony to the fact that God’s word is alive! (and most of the verses listed are among my favorites! )

    As a person who has seriously struggled with an anxiety disorder, this passage was my life saver. 🙂

  52. Isaiah 40:31 has been my lifetime verse for so long. I guess it goes along with life so well. It seems that the hardest thing for me to do it wait on the Lord, but that is what God asks us to do. And after all, I sure long to be like an eagle!

I may not understand the whys of a lot of stuff, but I’ve been learning that I really don’t have to understand–but to trust. Not easy–different circumstances-different reactions–but the one who died for me has me in the palm of his hand and lifts me when I fall.

My favorite verse is Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.” This verse became very real to me in Bible college in a class called “Building A Biblical Lifestyle” where I was taught what this meant and how to protect myself from what I allow into my mind. I use this all the time with my kids now!

  57. I have two verses that really stand out to me. The first one I learned when I was in grade school and have always loved it!
    “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

    The second verse is one I came across recently in a bible study and I love it too!

  61. I had just come to faith and, other than an old family bible that sat unused in our living room, had never really read much less looked at one. But, the day after I surrendered my life to Him, I so desperately needed to ‘hear’ from Him. As I changed TV channels, I stopped when I heard, “God promises to be with us through all our trials. Look at His promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13…” Well, where was this book in the bible? All I had in my hands was “Good News for Modern Man” which was given to me when I took that step of faith at the church. Grabbing my bible, I opened it. “Oh, I’m in 1 Corinthians…. oh, there’s chapter 10, oh, verse 13…” I knew from that time on, God would always be with me through ‘thick and thin!’ I now have “1 Corinthians 10:13” imprinted on the front of Bible and it is a beautiful reminder of His care for me.

  62. Philippians 4:13, for Pete’s sake!! I didn’t find my life verse until adulthood, although I’m sure I heard this verse many times before in my life. A few years ago, I was truly starting to dig deeper into faith, deeper into my relationship with the Lord. I was reading the Jan Karon series about Mitford, and truly felt connected to the verse for the first time. I was going through a very rough time, in my marriage, with my kids and at work…nothing was really wrong, but nothing was right either. Little did I know how truly blessed I was until the REALLY bad things started happening, lol…loss of jobs, loss of our home, etc. This verse became me…it became the only way for me to make it through some days. It also helped me to realize how absolutely blessed I was, even in the midst of what looked to be the worst period of my life.

    I have 2 life verses but probably many more than that!

    Jer. 29:11, I was down and out feeling lost and alone. I was contemplating what step to take next in my lifeless, loveless marriage. I felt as if life had absolutely no meaning what so ever. My future looked dim, my hope didn’t exist and I just knew everyone was out to hurt me.

    That is until one day this verse was explained to me so eloquently by my dearest friend Roni on the day she baptized me! I do have HOPE–GOD, I do have a future-GOD, I know for a fact He will NEVER hurt me! It has taken me a long time to grasp and accept each part of this scripture but I do now!

    The other is Psalm 118:5 In my anguish I cried to the Lord and he answered by setting me free…….oh how I cried daily, multiple times each day. I felt as if I couldn’t breathe under the weight of it all and I started noticing that I did make it through, I could breathe again, the sun did shine and he sent me rainbows to let me know he was near me!

    Well, I had just come from Bible Institute, going through much opposition at home with my husband, completely feeling neglected, rejected, hurt, misunderstood, he didn’t understand my faith and was very angry and showed it. We had no intimacy. & so I got home after class, 9I loved it) and laid on the sofa & opened this little wrapped gift that a dear sister in Christ had brought me from her trip to Guatemala and I opened it and loved the colors and the pictures and then..I read..& then I read it again…& in that moment of loneliness and pain, God met me there, through His Word and lavished his love and his presence so much upon me that I cried and cried as He whispered, I AM Your God, Your Lord, I know U, U R Mine & I am Yours..yes indeed, that was the 1st of many life verses and now I can’t live without His word. I praise God for that & those r my favorite little gifts to give & receive. They are always timely.

  67. My favorite life verse is Isaiah 61:2-3 He has sent me to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
    We lost a daughter, Savannah Grace, to a fatal chromosome disorder, called Triploidy two years ago. Since then, God has proven His faithfulness, drawn us into a deeper love for Him, and He has now blessed us with a miracle…I will be giving birth to a baby girl, Bella Joy (her name means beauty and joy) any day now. He has truly given us beauty from ashes and joy in the morning.

It gives me hope in the valleys and reminds me of the times the Lord has restored my joy, over and over again, and given me a future and hope. God’s promises are TRUE. This one (Jeremiah 29:11) is the one I cling to most.

  95. Our family verse: Let your Light SHINE before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matt. 5:16) This verse is so special to us. Years ago, as a young mom of two daughters, who were 4 and 6 at the time, I belonged to a small Christian Women’s Support Group and we shared many things on our heart with each other. The Lord spoke to me one week, as I was amazed of all the scriptures that contained the word light. I had an idea to give each lady, a decorated brown bag/filled with the gift of LIGHT. I wrapped up a candle in tissue paper which was opened that day and each day in the month they untied a scroll with a scripture pretaining to light. On the last day which happened to be on a Sunday I encouraged the ladies to come to church on the scroll to receive their gift of light. Our little girls were asked to sing in church a month before this but wanted us to do it as a family so we were going thru tapes to find a song…and only by the grace of God we heard for the first time the song let your light shine before men as the scripture from Matt. 5:16 which gave me the idea to put everything together and shared as a family during Sunday morning worship. Up front we lit a candle and our little ones said this scripture together and then one at a time the girls sang the song and the last time around we sang it together as a family. You could feel the holy spirit working in the service that Sunday. Our daughters are now, 21 and 23, and they always talk about their first scripture they learned at a very young age by song and still our favorite. We choose to believe that amazing moments are divine moments sent from above……not mere coincidences!

I prayed and asked the Lord, IF this is what He really wanted me to do then show me in His Word. I opened my Bible and Romans 12:1-2 is what I read. I made an immediate bee line to receive the Holy Spirit and my life has been ignited ever since. Thank you Lord!

    I first saw this verse as a placecard at a Mother/Daughter banquet as a child about 10, invited by a very good friend who just passed away June 15th at the age of 90. She used to have me to her home for a week at a time. She had more faith in her little finger than I have ever had in my lifetime. She trusted God for everything thing, great or small. She became my neighbor 19 years ago and I’ve had the opportunity of reuniting with her to learn even more of how to please God with my life. I was allowed to serve her all these years in gratitude for what she taught me. I will miss her greatly. I have claimed that verse for myself since I was that unsaved child, not really knowing the meaning at first. However, when I was saved in 1978, it became clear to me. Thank God for godly women who will teach the younger women, not only in talk but in deed.

  106. My “life verse” changes as my life changes. Right now I am trusting 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “Yes the Lord is faithful and He will strengthen you and set you o a firm foundation and guard you from the evil one.”
    It is written on a note card in a spiral kind of note-card binder. It sits in my kitchen window sill where I can read it and cling to it throughout the day.
