I am definitely not a skilled crafter, but I do enjoy making a few new homemade decorations around the holidays. Creating something with your own hands seems like such a domestic thing to do, doesn’t it?
I love being able to make something new out of what I already have on hand, especially when it is a project I can do with my kids. It is a fun yearly tradition to drink hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course!), listen to Christmas music and spend a little time crafting! Traditions where we spend real quality time making memories with our kids are so important.
The key for me on craft projects is they have to be simple and no fail! I don’t have patience or skill for anything complicated!
If you want to do something fun and creative, here are some extremely easy DIY craft projects for you!
Mason Jar Candles
I have been making very simple Mason Jar candles for years. I use Epsom salt all year round as filler in my jars because it looks like snow in the winter and white sand in the summer! This year, I’ve found a few new creative ways to fancy up the jars any time of year! You can find the instructions for Jingle Bell Jars and more mason jar ideas on my blog, The Inspired Room.
Holiday Shimmer Candles
Speaking of Epsom salt, my friend Emily from Remodeling This Life put together this glittery holiday candle last year using Epsom salt for the sparkles. Who knew Epsom salt was so versatile? You can find her instructions for Holiday Shimmer Candles here.
Simple Craft Garland
For the past few years I’ve put together some VERY simple holiday garland with my kids. You can find last year’s round up of my holiday craft garland ideas here.
What are your favorite holiday crafts?

wow! I’d have never thought of the epsom salts… that opens up a whole new venue for sparkles!
Just lovely! Thanks for these ideas. Simple crafts are definitely the way to go in my world. Last year for Christmas we made a “Joy to the World” quilt for our back door out of wrapping paper.
The epsom salts is a new idea to me, too. Thank you!
love these simple designs! a great way to get the kids involved too. π
Oh, girl, you are so talented. I love how you make all things lovelier–and make us feel like we can do the same! Can you come to my house, pretty please? π
XOXO
What great ideas! Thanks for the tips. I LOVE! LOVE! the garland made from cookie cutters.
I just did a blog post about a super easy Christmas craft! And all about making Christmas memories as a family.

Melissa, I love, love, love to do a crafty or thing or two with the kiddos, and these ideas look perfect. That cookie cutter garland is darling, and I had no idea Epsom salt was so versatile! Awesomeness.
Those are all so fun and pretty!!! I love the pretty simple part too…that way I don’t get too stressed while trying to make something special with our kiddos. I think I am going to try the garland you had i the first picture. I never thought of tracing around my cookie cutters for paper cut outs! What a great idea. Thanks!!! π
Your ideas always inspire me to try something new, Melissa. Thank you!

There is a fanpage on Facebook called Crafting 101 that has TONS of ideas for crafts, decorating for the holidays and gift ideas! All are pretty easy. This is one of the gifts/decorations I make each year too. http://www.ehow.com/how_5658541_make-scrapbook-christmas-ornament.html
I know this post has been around for a bit, but as I explore your blog archives I keep finding good stuff! or as Martha would say, good things…? Love the sparkly candles and the fake snow idea you used elsewhere… gonna go buy some Epsom salts! (and then when I’m done with it, i’ll dump it on my rosebushes, they love the stuff in winter…)
Great ideas – can’t wait to try them!
What fun & easy crafts….my kind of crafting! Thanksgiving blessings, Heidi
