  1. Thank you so much for telling me I’m not the only one who struggles in this area. I too can navigate the supermarket but, if there are sweet things in my house (or someone else’s house!), they get eaten. I really like that you’ve shown an example of how you dealt with the situation – so many writers tell the theory but aren’t honest about the practice.

  2. There are just some verses that I wish weren’t in the Bible sometimes: “do everything w/o grumbling or complaining”, “to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin”, etc. I’d have a lot less sin in my life if these verses weren’t there. But then again, there are verses I am SO glad that are in the Bible: “Therefore, we have been justified by faith”, “Christ died for our sins”, etc. I’m so glad that God is sovereign and in charge – I’d just mess it all up!

  3. Thanks for sharing!!
I’ve been trying to take better care of myself lately (Eating healthy and exercising), and while I’m great at encouraging others (I just convinced my dad to run a 5k with me to help get us both on a healthy track), I’m awful at encouraging myself!
I think I’m going to hang 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 in front of my treadmill to help me keep my head up!
And, the cookies… oh, the cookies. I always say I’ll just have 2 and stop at 4 or 6. And, I too can pass them up with no problem at the store, but when they’re sitting in my pantry they take on a whole new seductiveness.

  4. Ah, yes, thin mints! They are even better frozen. Self-control is hard to maintain. We need to tune our ears to hear and obey the still small voice speaking to us. Thank you for that reminder.

  5. Upon first reading I thought this post was sweet – but had nothing to do with me. I always manage to eat healthy and besides, sweets really aren’t my thing…
Fast forward to a couple of days later and I’ve just blown $500 (again!) shopping for clothes on the internet. And it clicks that one woman’s sugar binge is another’s compulsive shopping. I hear God’s voice, his wisdom – and I choose to ignore it.
Thankyou, Angela, for switching a light on for me
