I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Psalm 139:14 ESV
Let’s pray together: Lord, thank You so much for my children. They were fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank You for creating them to be unique, just as You planned. Thank You for giving me the wonderful honor to be their mother. Help me to raise them to live out their God-given purpose and follow You as their Lord and Savior. Amen.
It wasn’t until my middle daughter started to talk that I saw how unique and different she was from my son. My first son is shyer and reserved, a thinker, whereas my daughter is the life of the party and very social. We’ve yet to see how our third will turn out — he may be a fun mix of both. As each of my children grows, I see so many great ways God made them and how unique they are, how different from each other.
Mama, we must celebrate and cultivate each of our children’s unique gifts — and why God made them to be who they are! Let’s not push them into things they aren’t meant to do, but instead, let’s grow their character in the name of the Lord.
What’s even more wonderful is seeing characteristics in your children that came from you or their dad, or maybe even a grandparent or two too! As we appreciate our children, let’s not compare them to each other by considering one better than another, but instead realize how wonderful it is that they were created by the One Most High. As you navigate your child’s unique qualities, stay in prayer for them. The prayer at the beginning of this devotion can be used as often as you’d like, and feel free to add to it too!
Mama, sit back and think of each of your children . . . what makes them, them? As they grow, do you see how they’ve changed or stayed the same? Can you pick out the unique talents or gifts God gave them or that have been worked on through school, sports, or work? Their uniqueness should be celebrated as we let them be who God created them to be. Maybe, Mama, you’re already seeing that play out in the jobs they have today or the things in which they’re interested. Let them follow their own path as it leads to the greater purpose in life God has for them!

You Are Made for This, by Melissa Horvath, is a devotional to encourage moms to reaffirm both their role and identity in Christ.
Everyone needs a mother, but mothers don’t always feel needed, wanted, or confident in their role. Raising children is filled with ups, downs, and obligations, and while moms are centrally important to their family’s well-being, they can often neglect their own, which can lead to insecurity and self-doubt. This devotional is designed to empower and encourage busy mothers, reminding them of their value, God’s provision, and the divine purpose that is already being fulfilled in their lives, even when it feels like they’re living in chaos or stuck in the daily grind.
This devotional is a heartfelt companion for every mother, a source of inspiration and encouragement on the busiest of days and the most challenging of nights. It’s a powerful reminder that God’s purpose for your children – and for you – is so much bigger than any momentary struggle. And it’s an assurance that perfection is never the expectation, that there’s no room for mom guilt, and that God will never abandon you. He sees you, and His love for you is unwavering.
Join author, business owner, and mom of three Melissa Horvath on this transformative journey and discover that you, indeed, are made for this.
We know You Are Made for This: Devotions to Uplift and Encourage Busy Moms will be a blessing in your life or the life of someone you love.

This email was to me as though God himself snatched doubt out of my mind as I was just questioning an opportunity that my family and I are being invited to participate. Thank you for sharing this message today. Melissa, thanks for the encouragement to mothers. We need it every day.

As my children get closer to adulthood (be still my heart), I’m beginning to see more of exactly what this post says…their unique gifts…how they are so similar, yet so individual. My daughter is learning to trust herself and build confidence in her amazing body for sports and her amazing mind for maybe engineering, but her heart and her hands are being trained for serving in her church. My son, bless his heart, is working to see what a “teen” is, when he still thrives as the little boy inside. He is smart, funny, and had a HUGE heart for empathy with all the feels. God is grooming him for greatness that I can’t even imagine yet. I am truly blessed as their mama, and marvel that God entrusted them to me. Thank you for this prayer!

I needed this today. I am a wife and mom to 3 beautiful young adult kids. My oldest is very smart, independent, and strong. My middle and youngest both have some disabilities. My husband and I have struggled so much with this because they are our boys. I don’t know why the Lord allowed this but He does. Praying the Lord will continue to lead, guide, and give us wisdom to help us in helping them navigate life.

I’m very tired of being treated like an outcast or a loser, or that I don’t matter and have no purpose because I don’t have children. I’m not included in conversations, not shown pictures of others families, I am easily dismissed and avoided because I’m not like all the women with kids.
Lisa says
Hi J, God still has an amazing purpose for your life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that not having children doesn’t define you in His eyes. I’m praying that you will find some new friends who will make you feel included for who you are. Blessings!

My daughter is my only child and she was such a treasure as a youngster! She is now a mama to 5 kids! All different. So far 2 teenagers…yikes! She is an absolutely amazing Mom…. and just like all mommies… she forgets how wonderfully she is made.
This devotional is a perfect mother’s day gift for her and all mommies! ( ;

You are excellent writer and thank you Melissa for coming to Incourage. I can’t wait to hear other stuff you have to say to in the days to come. One thing we can relate to is we are all Daughters of the king of kings. As it says in the Psalm you talk about we are fearfully and wonderfully made. That God even knew us before we born. That he covered us in our mother’s womb. Our frame was not hidden from God when we were made in secret that means our mother’s womb. So that tell me we were made for This. How precious are His thoughts about us. We couldn’t even count them. God is with when even awake. 13-18 or Pslam 139. Love Dawn Ferguson-Little Enniskillen Co. Fermanagh N.Ireland xx

Melissa,
Women forget how wonderful they are. Life is so full of twists, turns & things never expected. Mamas need to know they are loved valued for who they are & what they do. They are raising the next generation. Moms God made you for this job & gave you the children to mold.
Blessings 🙂

Wow, Love this meaningful post and Heartfelt Prayer. THANKS, Melissa for your special gift of inspiring words. This encouraging devotional, You Are Made for This, sounds amazing…so refreshing to the soul for all the mama’s/grandma’s too. I remember Beth Moore giving one piece of advice to new mommies: We only get one shot at it. Once they’re grown, they’re grown. Give up on doing it perfectly but do it with a lot of HEART and a lot of LAUGHTER and a WHOLE LOT OF JESUS…rock them all you can! My Prayer: Dear Father God, “Thank You” for the blessings that comes along with being a momma of two amazing daughters, along with being a grandmother to five precious little ones! Being a grandparent is a great privilege & a source of endless Joy and Satisfaction. We praise you, Heavenly Father, for your promise in Proverbs 17:6 “Grandchildren are the crown of the elderly” Amen SHINE God’s Light where ever you go! P.S. Invest your time….Children need a lot of attention as they Grow!!!
