A few months ago, part of our house got burnt. My favourite place, the spot where I always went to fellowship with the Lord, was gone. The beautiful space I once knew had been reduced to ashes, and I couldn’t go back because the place felt too heavy for me.
Then, one day, this Scripture arose in my spirit:
The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
Genesis 1:2–3 AMP
What stood out to me was this: “The Spirit of God was moving.”
Days later, I went back to clean the burnt room. As I swept the ashes, I began to fellowship with the Lord again. And right there, I realized the burning didn’t burn the Spirit of the Lord. The Spirit of God never stopped moving. Physically, the place was destroyed, but spiritually, His presence never left.
How did I miss that we walk by faith and not by sight?
Out of that same room where I once sat on the bare floor have now come beautiful melodies in the night, powerful sermons, and even this very write-up. God truly uses ashes to create beauty. Sometimes He doesn’t even remove the ashes. He simply transforms them into something glorious.
Maybe you’re standing in a “burnt room” where something you loved is gone, shattered, or unrecognizable. But, just as in Genesis, the Spirit of God still moves over dark, empty places. His presence cannot be limited just because something was destroyed.
Don’t run from your ashes. Invite God into them. Go back. Sit with Him. Worship in the place that feels heavy.
You may be surprised at the beauty He’s been waiting to birth right there.

The Spirit of God still moves over the dark. Amen
Thanks for pointing this out today, opening my eyes anew for this truth.

Hello Lisa, perfectly said. Thank you for your contribution.
Hello and thank you for your sad story, but God was there with you. Sometimes we forget about this when it is a really heartbreaking situation. So , I have been very sick the last 3 days and your words reminded me to pray to Jesus for help. I have not seen your devotions before. I do hope we will see more from you. You seem like such a wonderful woman and I rely on (in)courage for keeping me grounded. I am 78 years old and find things seem harder to deal with than when I was in my 30’s. I send my love and prayers to you and wish you a Blessed week. We are dealing with 18 inches of snow here. The biggest snow we have had in a decade. I pray that I can somehow clean my car off I am alone and where I live, nobody is allowed to help you. Take care…………………………..Betsy Basile
Thinking of you ,Betsy and keeping you in prayer!!
Dear Betsy, thank you so much for taking the time to share this with me. Your words truly touched my heart I’m grateful that, even in the midst of sickness and heaviness, you were reminded to turn to Jesus. He really is near to us, especially in those moments.
I’m so encouraged by your honesty and your faith. Please know I am praying for your strength, healing, and protection as you face this snow and the challenges of being alone. May the Lord cover you with His peace and give you grace for each step, even the small ones like clearing your car.
Thank you for your love and prayers they mean more than you know. I’m honored you’re here, and this is my first devotion and yes, by God’s grace, there will be more devotions. Sending you love, warmth, and blessings for the week ahead.

God has used this same scripture lately to remind me that he brings light to darkness and order from chaos!! Thank you!!
Hello Karen, we thank God for the comfirmation of His word. Thank you for sharing this with me.
Maame, thank you for sharing your story and the ‘insight to God’s love’ that it gave you. Right now, our world feels like a ‘burnt room’ full of hate and chaos. Trusting in God’s Word and finding proof of His love every day are what bring me hope. His love will prevail over all.
Hello Phyllis, thank you for throwing more light. Yes His love will prevail over all. God bless you.
Maame God showed me this. All we have is just material. We came into the world with nothing and we will go out with nothing. We came into the world naked and we will go out naked. All we have is just material. In the bink of and eye it can be taken away from us. Like you and part of house. We can get wrapped in what we have and when it taken away like part of your home being burnt. Especially if was special to us like we’re you fellowship with God in your part home that was burnt. You get why why did this happen to us or me. You can get all wrapped up in it and forget about God. God wouldn’t want us if things like this happen to us. To forget about him and think more of what we have lost. As it more important to thank God we are alive everyday and thank God for giving us another day too live. Not focus on what we have lost. As we came into the world with nothing and we will go out with nothing and we came into the world naked and well go out naked. If we do loose something special to us no matter how big or small it was. That we will never get back or fix as it used to be. Like you Maame and your part of house burned that was special to you as you used it to fellowship with God. You can know God will still be with you in those hard times coming to terms with what you have lost that meant so much to you. God will fill in the void of those dark times that you think you can never get over. All you have to do is Pray and trust God and stand on his promises and God will guide you to do what is best and how to help you in what your going through in theses difficult times. Giving you his peace and love like never before. Yes it’s difficult but with God you can do it. As I say Maame when you saw your favourite part of your home burnt I say it was hard for you to see. You have alot to thank God for that no one was injured or died. We can worship God anywhere. I love to get up early and start my day with God in reading my Bible and saying my prayers. Plus listening to a Christian Radio Station in the car before my Husband taking me on his tea break at the to do my Dad’s house. As just sitting in car listening to UCB United Christian Broadcasters Radio that you get in the UK. As it helps me be calm before going to my Dad’s with the Christian music and teaching. That I go to my Dad’s with the love of God and knowing God is with me giving me the strength to do my Dad’s. As my Dad has dementia and can be ok today and not the next day. So you take one day at a time with him. I have more patience and am more calm with my Dad especially if in mood. That is my way and favourite time to praise God before going to do his house. Love Dawn Ferguson-Little Enniskillen Co.Fermanagh N.Ireland. xx
Hello Dawn, thank you so much for sharing this it truly touched my heart You’re so right, we came with nothing and will leave with nothing, and our greatest gift is life and God’s presence with us. Your words were a beautiful reminder to trust Him, even in loss. Thank you for your love, prayers, and encouragement. Sending you love and peace always. ✨
I love to pray the other side of the world for you all incourage and your Families and all who put incourage on line for us women to read and grow closer to Jesus. I love you all in Christ. I glad all the way from my side of the world to yours that we are sisters in Christ. I probably not meet any of you this side of earth. But in glory I will give you all a big hug. I thank you for your kind words to me also. Love Dawn and big hugs xx
