  1. Due to ailments big & small I found myself sidelined in numerous times through my life. But God in His kindness never totally benched me because I could always be praying for my own recovery & others. The privilege & joy of talking to God becomes richer & richer the more I practice it. I love your tips & can testify to how helpful they are.
I have been asked to give a talk on Joy in Suffering to a ladies conference at our church. Please pray it will be personable & relatable but not the Ruth story of losing my sight. May it point to Jesus~ the only true source of joy!
I pray each of our prayer lives will grow stronger each day as we use our prayer muscles. Thanks for the encouragement, Rachel! Blessings (((0)))

    • Trusting that God will fill you with all wisdom and courage as you step out to speak and share with the women of your church. They will be honored to hear any part of your story, and may God pour into your heart even as you seek to pour into these women. You are beloved, Ruth!

  2. Thank you so much. Prayer is my passion but you gave me some wonderful guidelines and suggestions. My prayer is that I would use some of these especially when talking o someone. I love the quote about not going 30 minutes without praying! I am going to share that with my prayer team! God bless you. Your children are so blessed to be raised in this way. I also have an unspoken request for a friend who could really need it, her name is Virginia. Thank you. Sharon A,

    • Dearest Heavenly Father, Thank yYou for the privilege of prayer! What a gift that we don’t have to layout all the details for You to move. Surround Sharon A’s friend Virginia. If she doesn’t know You as Savior call her to Yourself. If she already knows You be deepening her faith roots throughout this situation. In the name power, authority & affection of Jesus Amen.

    • Sharon, I do hope you try listening to God while talking to someone. It’s such a sacred way of serving others — we listen, lean into what God may be whispering, then we offer up that encouragement. <33 God grant your friend, Virginia, with all peace and hope in the days ahead.

  3. I am grateful to God for continuing to provide a roof over my head. The weather is getting colder and I am grateful to have heaters to move from room to room. I am praying for discernment over the financial decision to get heating unit replaced. Please lift that prayer up. Thank you.

    • I dont know exactly what to ask for, but I am feeling weary after a difficult year and I am starting a new job soon, so I wrestling a bit with hope and fear regarding that.

      • Oh precious Lord, You go ahead of Barbara & have promised to never leave her. Be tangible to her, quieting her anxiety & fearsl. Assure her she is a conqueror because of You & she can boldly meet new coworkers, bosses & customers. Shine in & through her. In the name, power, authority & affection of Jesus, Amen

      • I’m thinking of the verse Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ♡ God bless you with renewed strength.

    • Dearest Heavenly Lord thank You for providing Dee’s needs & her ability to know that You are the Provider. I ask, as You instruct us to ask for wisdom for her to handle her financial decisions. Make her next steps clear and bring Yourself glory. In the name, power, authority & affection of Jesus, we pray. Amen

  4. Today we’re facing a difficult meeting as we try to help mend relationships between unsaved family members. I’m grateful for your reminder to pray while others are talking… which will also help me say anything I shouldn’t.

    • Dearest Heavenly Father, the author of relationships be tangible to Betty & her family. Give compassion & grace in their thoughts & words to build each other up. May this meeting begin restoring old hurts & even more importantly an opening of their minds & hearts toward a saving relationship to Yo. May today be the day they say yes to You! In Your name, power, authority & affection we pray.

    • I so love that these words met you today in your moment of need. I hope the tip for listening while others speak was helpful…and that you continue to carry it as a tool under your belt in the days to come. May God grant peace and protection to you and your family. ♡

  5. Praying that the breakthrough that’s at my fingertips will come to fruition soon, so that I can be a Blessing to someone else. Thank you for your prayers in advance. Be Blessed always.

  6. I love all of these. I am going to try and add these to my daily prayers. My marriage is on the brink of ending. Prayers for my husband who is very lost right now. Prayers for healing and reconciliation.

    • Dearest Heavenly Father, guide Traci’s steps. Be tangible to her husband that he might have clear & wise direction from You. Give Traci wisdom as to how to honor You in & through this relationship. Be glorified. In the name, power, authority & affection of Jesus Amen.

  7. I enjoyed your article on the podcast today about prayer.
After 38 years of teaching, and just turning 60, Ive decided to retire. The decision has not come with 100% excitement but rather 50/50. 1/2 excitement and 1/2 emotions. Please include me in your prayers so that I may never forgot the Lord is with me even in big and small decisions. He will provide. Most importantly may I feel His peace as I complete my final year having my own classroom. I also praise God for the many many blessings from being a teacher. Thank you Lord. Thank you for this podcast as well!

  8. Please pray for my adult son who is temporarily blind in one eye due to blood in the eye. This is due to sickle cell anemia. He has seen a retina specialist on Monday; sugery cannot be done until blood is gone. His hematologist wants to see him today. Thank for praying. Also thank you for this devo on prayer. Bless you as you continue to encourage your sisters in Christ.

    • One of my favorite shows during advent is “The Christmas Candle”. It’s based on a story by Max Lucado. Now I’m reading the story of it. I’ve been lighting a candle every morning during advent and lifting up my concerns to God. My brother passed away last month and there have been so many demands of me, and yet I grieve his passing. I find I just sit a lot and try to muster up strength to keep going. The house is cluttered and I have so much to do. I’m just taking it one day at a time. I look for God winks in my day. I need prayer for God’s favor during thos time of loss. I like the prayer practices you shared.

      • I’m praying for you Regina… mercy and grace is upon you in all your days. Sorry that you are suffering and grieving.. I have lost my brother, mother and brother in law all in 7 months,5 years ago. The Lord has been faithful in my healing and my prayers are heard.. He will continue to give you strength and comfort and peace in what you need to do. I LOVE that movie the Christmas candle! Blessings Regina and rest in Him always know He will give you exactly what you need at this time..xoxo

  9. Rachel, what an insightful and purposeful list of “ways & whens” for prayer to be infused in our daily lives. I appreciate prayers for my two sons, who each are in need of God’s healing of their hurting hearts, so they may live much more peace filled lives. Thank you for this opportunity to lift them up to our Heavenly Father.

  10. Thank you Rachel
“I can talk to God directly, no matter how small the pain or great the grief. I can bring my praise, wonderings, wounds, and worries”
Thank you Jesus you are always with me \0/

  11. Thank you Rachel. Please pray for my family. So many broken, fractured relationships. Because our one daughter and grandchildren will come for Christmas, the others will not. So heartbreaking my husband and I are struggling with depression. Thank you for your prayers.

  12. Dear Rachael……What a gift you have given to us today, especially if we have too many serious problems that are overwhelming us. That describes me to a tee. I loved your suggestions and I will try each of them. It has been a very rough time for me the last really for 54 years, not constant, but the last 6 years it has been ongoing. I was dating a guy when I was 20 and after 2 years, I was still not comfortable to be intimate yet with anyone. HE decided it was time and I still said NO, four times when he grabbed me and raped me. I fought as hard as I could, I was so scared I even asked the Devil to help me fight him off, but nothing worked and 3 weeks later at 21 years old I found I was pregnant. I had no idea what to do. The perpetrator just told me to get an abortion and we would break up and everything would be fine. My answer was that may be fine for you, but I am Not having an abortion and you who claims to be a devout Catholic and I am Protestant, I cannot believe you would even suggest this. We had to get married. Back in the 60’s, you had to do this (called Shotgun Marriages) at the time. Fast forward to the last 6 years now. He has dementia and tried to kill me, drank way too much and abused me every night for 3+ years. My son called me at age 52 and said I was a liar and he told me not to call me his Mother as he did not look at me that way and he and his wife would never again let me see my one grandchild or even talk to him. He is 15 now and there has been no shift in this situation which crushes me every day. They have told him horrible stories about me to alienate him from me as well. Oh, I could go on, but I have already taken up too much of your time. So holidays are painful for me as I am alone, have nobody to talk to as my friends don’t call me anymore either. They are too busy with their extended families, which I understand, but it is still painful. The Senior Living Facility with 85 residents is so messed up right now and it is supposed to be Independent Living, but it is far from that. There is no care here and this is the third management team that has just come in and I have only been here 2 years. I do appreciate your words Rachael, and I pray, pray, pray. I will continue to read your (in) courage books and journals which I love to do. Writing things down does really help to give me some peace. I have written down your “Our pain may be ever -present, but so is God,” and placed the post it on my computer so I can always see it. I wish you and your family, Rachael, a Blessed and happy holidays. I am looking forward to Celebrating the Birth of Jesus. Love, Betsy

  13. Dearest Heavenly Father I join Chante in her pray to be a blessing to others. Thank You that You are with her in blessing others & being her strength for each step. Be magnified in our sister! In the name, power, authority & affection of Jesus Amen

  14. Thank you so much for reminding me that God is always a prayer away. 2026 starts year 7 of being a caregiver and I am just tired.
Even in my tiredness, I can praise God for always giving me what I need to get through each day. He has given us friends who pray for us, who make themselves available if needed and touch my heart in so many ways.

    • Hi, K. You are so seen. I understand your tired. I was a caregiver for my brother (profound special needs and disability), and have been caring for him again. I also witness the toll caregiving is taking on my mom. It’s so much. You are doing holy work, and it does not go unseen. Lifting you up to the One who will always care for you. ♡

  15. I would appreciate prayer. I got a call back on my mammogram and will have additional scanning tomorrow. This has happened before but I worry each time as my mom passed from breast cancer. I know it’s in God’s hands.

    • God goes before you and stands beside you — tomorrow, next week, next month, and no matter come what may. Let there be healing … and let there be hope on your journey of scanning in the season ahead. ♡

  16. Rachel Prayer is our way to communicate with God. God like us to pray to him and read his word everyday. Like the way we communicate with our loved ones we see everyday. Prayer is our way of spending our quiet time with God praying to him for our needs and the needs of the world that God puts on our mind. Not just praying to God when we are in trouble I’ll or Family ill or we need a job because we just lost the one we had. Or because wee panic how we are going to pay our bills if have no job. Or will if we been told we have cancer. Will we beat it. Or Family been told that. We can go into panic mode and say Lord help me in the situation we are going through. We expect God to answer right away take the pain away and make everything ok no matter what it is we are panicking about and praying to God to fix. Other time we might not pray everyday. But when something go wrong like what I said all ready panic set in. We go God answer me help me I need you my Family need you etc. Before we might have only said prayers when we felt like it to God. Or because someone has asked us would we pray for them or this situation. We say yes and we do. Then when we prayed about something and our prayers don’t seem to be getting answered. God can be putting us to a test to see even if we have to wait to see what God say about our prayers request and have patience. To see in all our panic and expecting God to answer right away have we kept our eyes on God trusting him that he will answer in his own time. God timing is always right sometimes that why God makes us wait not answering us right away. So we have to have faith in God and patience. Sometimes when we pray God doesn’t take what we prayed for away God helps us through it. Helps us get through it. Like God to do with Moses and the red sea. He didn’t take the people’s problems away. He made away help them through it. Like the way he parted the red sea. They the people had to trust God and walk through the red sea. God taught them trust in him. We when have a prayer request like an illness or out of work or baby has died at birth or born with something wrong with it. We don’t go to God right away asking God in prayer to help us and show us what to do. We panic and that is natural. We go to a person we trust we say will you pray for this offal situation for me or what I going through. We should have went to God in prayer first then another person. Not running to another person first. God has taught me that time and time again. Any prayer we are faced with I believe God is saying take it to the Lord in prayer first not anyone else. Leave it with God and stand on the promises of God’s word too. Know and believe God will work it all out in his timing and tell us what to. Something we don’t. I done that in past. I heard God say why didn’t you come to me first in prayer about this situation. Not getting other to pray first. It was hard for me in situations to learn how to do that. No let God be second best. I getting better at it. Then leaving it with God and waiting for him to help me by telling me what to do. Prayer is also saying sorry to God for the wrong we done that we shouldn’t have done as it wrong in God eyes. Asking God in prayer to help us not do it again. • Hi, Dawn — I know exactly what you mean. I just walked through one of the toughest seasons of my life. Honestly, it’s still tough. But…what changed was my heart. Instead of rushing to others and turning inward to try to force and fix the situation away, instead I began to welcome the possibility that God might be wanting to do a work in my heart. You’re so right — God is not just here to fix our every problem, give us what we want, make our every dream come true. Rather God is in the business of renewing our hearts. What a relief to welcome that each day. What peace. I hope that peace finds you today. ♡

      • Thank you Rachel for your reply it help me so much what you said. Yes in a few situations God has also wanted to work on my heart too. I had to be willing to say Lord here I am work on my heart. I knew I had to say sorry God I didn’t go to you first I panicked. God said Dawn to me one time as I went through a time saying God it’s my problem not yours. You have enough to do not listen to my problems you have others who have worse problems than me to hear their Prayers to help them through what they are going through. I told my friend this and for some reason in what I said to her. My friend send to my email address the Father Love Letter said Dawn God told me to tell you to watch this and listen to it. I did and it broke me I knew God loved me and was there for me. But listen to it broke me that I saw God in a different way. That he was my Heavenly Father and I am loved and what came to my mind after listening to it. Was like a Father with it child on it’s knee saying I love you Dawn I will always love you. Tell me how you are. I try to fix it if I can and help you. Like a kid with a broken toy going to it Father to help fix it if he can. Helping me mend it like what I was going through at that time. God said to I am your Father and I will help yku fix this that is broken if I can which I can only if you let me as if you don’t it will stay broken. I can’t help you fix it. I learned so much from my friend sending me the Fathers love letter. My earthly Dad still alive but I don’t remember him ever it could have telling me he loved me. He never been the Father I have wanted. That you could sit on his kee and hug and he tell you I love you. He listen to my silly chat as we child. He was the type and still is as long as he’s ok that is all that matters. Yes he ask me today now again if I hurt myself like I broke my ankle he asked how I was each time I went to see him. As I do the cleaning of his house. I was glad he asked then through going to visit him at different times you get when are you coming back meaning to do his house again. My sister did it as best they could when I couldn’t after work. I had to pray to God to give me patience to say nothing to my Dad just say I be back when better. The Fathers love letter made cry to think my Heavenly Father love me the way it says in the Fathers love letter. My Dad my Friend and Husband said to your Dad will not change until he gets saved. I pray for his salvation I want nothing from my 84 year old Dad when his time up on earth. Just to know he is saved and I will see him in Glory one day. Nothing better could he give me before his time up. I pray for his salvation and he knows I do and says glad you belive all that. Love Dawn Ferguson-Little

  17. Thank you for the reminder to pray in all circumstances. I ask for prayers to remember to lift praise as well asmy little physical, mental, and spiritual issues to our Lord. God bless.

  18. I just ask for prayers for healing for my family and I. Recently, some type of illness or multiple illness has hit my family and I feel like we might be slowly on the mend, but we all still kind of feel run down, so I just ask for complete healing.

  19. Rachel this was right on time. this is an excellent reminder in a season of lose, hurt and expectations. The perfect tree, perfect gift and the lack of funds and time to make it all happen. praying that God see us through the superficial to see the true meaning.

  20. Please pray for my neighbors, Jo and Jenn who are married to each other. Both are battling some type of cancer. They have around the clock nurses and never had any children.
    Thank you.

  21. I read your emails daily and enjoy them . This one especially hit home this week because I am responsible for my aunt and have been for 7 years now and each year gets harder and harder not because of her specifically but because of her finances. She is now at the point to where my husband and I need to contribute to her being able to afford to pay where she lives since living with us is not an option and she doesn’t qualify for skilled nursing just yet. If you could please pray for us in making ends meet for her and us. We would appreciate it. This is such a stressful time.
    Thank you

  22. What a beautiful article. Thank you. I would love to have you pray for my sister. She is going through some tough times medically. She also had to unexpectedly put down her beloved dog last week due to an aggressive cancer.

  23. Please Pray for me to have someone close to share with, especially, during Holidays! Very lonely and depressed, no family or close friends! 12/10/05 was holding my pop when he left to go be with mom in Heaven! All my family are with the Lord, except my 2 nephews who have their own family and don’t keep in touch! Last time saw 50 yr. old was 2010, 58 yr. old 2016 when booked a cabin for his family and I to share! Thank you, getting old alone isn’t easy! An old “hippie” never married or had kids! My best friends have died or don’t keep in touch!
