Not to criticise the items which are tasteful – I do wonder how it looks to God when we make ‘products’ out of the Gospel . . . Do we turn Jesus into a commodity to be bought in a shop then displayed in our homes. It concerns me. What do others think?
Marina Bromley says
I think that sometimes, a Christ centered mug, bag, or home decor item, can open the door to life-giving conversation!
A few weeks ago our pastor taught on the cross, the “official” symbol of Christianity. He made such a good point to say that there are MANY symbols of our faith, and as a movement we could have chosen any of them (fish, rainbow, etc) to mark MAJOR things that God has done throughout time.
But it’s not all the good-thing-inspired symbols that we are identified with – it’s the cross. The thing that tried to defeat our Lord and Savior….but couldn’t hold Him down. How better to remember that our God is not all butterflies and flowers, but also with us in suffering. And how better to share our hope and faith with others than by displaying these things in our homes, on our bodies, and giving them to others to encourage them!!
I’m grateful for the items that DaySpring has created over the years!!
THANK YOU!!
ps- the company is generous in promoting ministries and honoring God in MANY ways!! if you doubt their sincerity, head on over to Siloam Springs, AR and look at their HUGE wall with their mission’s statement on it…it’s inspiring too!!

Thank you so much for your question Susan, and you response, Marina. This is a topic that DaySpring always considers and takes very seriously. We never want to simply created products. We truly do want them to minister.
In Deuteronomy it says, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” We believe products like these are a modern way to do so. And, yes, we have to charge for them so that we can keep making them (believe me, the DaySpring folks are generous and would do this for free if possible!).
I also think a lot about how Jesus is “the Word made flesh” and I think there is something powerful about spiritual truth becoming something tangible in our everyday lives. Truth we can see and touch. I hope that helps. And thank you again for asking. We always want to be wrestling with this and making sure we are faithful stewards. A lot of prayer went into these products! 🙂

At 78 years of age, Holly’s writings touch my heart and spirit as few writers ever have. That I can look forward to her words on email and share them with dear friends is a gift of God . When I am most down her words lift me as no others besides the scriptures. I am amazed that this woman can so touch my inner being’s challenges and struggles and history.
Thank you
