I’m a proud mother of boys–a whole different breed of human.
Parenting my sons is my greatest joy and my greatest challenge. I love them to the ends of the earth and back, but honestly, sometimes they suck the life out of me. I get so discouraged when it seems that even my best efforts to reach their hearts miss the mark. Each day I target the hearts of my boys, aiming high and taking my best shot. But so many days I fall short, or my aim is off, or I’m just too weary to pull the bow back far enough for the arrow to have the strength to pierce the heart. I go to bed those nights exhausted physically and emotionally. But in my weakness, He is strong.
Perhaps the best place for a weary mom to be is physically and emotionally exhausted … on her knees.
With each day that passes, I’m more convinced that I have absolutely no power to change the hearts of my boys. Oh, I can change their behavior if I try hard enough. Anyone can do that. But I know that what’s in the heart eventually comes out. I know that if their knees are ever to bend to Jesus as Savior, their hearts must bend first. And that’s God’s business.
Are you a mother of boys who often finds herself wanting to waive the white flag in defeat?
Do they drain you, overwhelm you, steal your heart, break your heart and cause you more anxiety than you ever dreamed possible?
There’s only one thing we can do…
Plead with God.
“The fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:17.
It’s our hope.
In February of 2011 I released Warrior Prayers: Praying the Word for Boys in the Areas They Need it Most. A few months later, over 1,300 moms (and a few dads) in seven different countries joined me in the 21 Days of Prayer for Sons challenge based on that book.
Today, you can download a PDF copy of Warrior Prayers for only $2.99 (50% off) just in time for the fall edition (back-to-school!) of 21 Days of Prayer for Sons! (available for Nook and Kindle too…but only 50% in PDF format). Grab your copy today and join me as we pray passionately and purposefully for the hearts of our sons!
