I’ve been climbing this mountain my whole life….
It’s treacherous and steep with few sturdy grips. My extremities burn hot, and sometimes, I feel I won’t make it. At times I’m down right terrified.
I could tell you alot about my mountains. But this post isn’t about the mountain. This post is about you.
See we all have a mountain to climb. In this life, we’ve several. Some are more dangerous than others. Some mountains we’re prepared for. Some mountains we want to climb. Then some, seem to rise up out of the earth and intimidate us with no other path but upwards.
And why do we climb?
For the challenge. The accomplishment. For the view.
It is a magnificent view on the mountain top.
And it feels so good to conquer.
But some mountains we climb only because we have to. Because the alternative is failure, divorce, defeat, even death…
So we climb, one shaky foot above the other.
It takes determination, courage, pure moxie to climb these mountains of life. Jesus promises that He will give us everything we need to climb it. And He does.
He gave me you my friend. Because I can’t climb this mountain alone. None of us can.
We need a belayed.
Without a belay this mountain may consume us. Without a belay this mountain is most deadly.
You encourage me to keep going. Remind me to rest and take in the view. When I can’t see ahead, you search for a way to direct me. Yes, you seek God on my behalf. You share my burden. You fasten that lifeline and secure it around me. You cut me slack, literally.
You and I are linked together. God is the rope that binds us. I feel the hold and it reminds me that I am not alone up here.
When I fall, you help me up. You bandage my wounds, brush away the debris, offer me cool water and hoist me back up on that mountain.
And when I reach the top, you marvel and bless and thank God with me. Because you understand what it took for me to get there.
Thank you for being God’s hands, His voice, His presence at times in my life. Thank you for bearing… me.
This post is dedicated to to you my friend.
You Are My Belayed.
Belay : The process of securing and safeguarding a climber by using a rope to hold the climber’s weight if he falls. The ascending climber and the belay-er, or the person holding the rope, are a team that is linked together by the rope.

how is it that these timely, well spoken, true to my heart clutter now made clear, comments of another sister are here when I so needed them? Thank you for sharing.
I’ll be passing this along to my “belayer”/sister-in-the-Lord.

Yes, we really do need each other–in the happy and hard times. Thanks for this powerful image of how true that really is for all of our hearts!

God is sooo good isn’t He Melody! He always knows just what we need and and when we need it. Blessings to you sister. I’m so thankful for a place like (in)courage where we ladies can share our hearts. It’s incredible how God uses our written voice to encourage each other. So sweet! ~love~

We all have mountains to climb…
At times we have a choice to climb or not, other times we just have to do it.
At both times, it becomes easier having somebody to do climbing with you…
At all times, life goes on…

As a rock climber, this was beautifully written. I’ve shared it with many of my friends who continue to encourage me to keep climbing even when it seems that there are no holds. Thank you for this beautiful post.
